Winter Walking, Minus the Talking
A wellness trend is taking Gen Z by storm. “Silent Walking” is a term used to describe going for a walk alone and without one’s phone, music, podcasts, or AirPods. While some of you might be more familiar with just calling this concept “walking,” that doesn’t change the fact that regular strolls are an excellent way to support one’s podiatric health!
However, with winter on its way, some will soon suffer slip and fall injuries, while others might struggle to select proper footwear for snowy treks. Even if you’ve decided to stroll without personal devices, it can still be beneficial to invest in another walking aid: orthotics.
Podiatric issues can turn walks from relaxing, meditative experiences into painful, frustrating ordeals.
Orthotics can benefit any patients who suffer from the following:
Plantar Fasciitis
This results from rips in the plantar fascia, the tissue along the bottom of your foot. Damage leads to inflammation, which causes pain, burning, and numbness.
Bunions or Hammertoes
Bunions become painful impediments if you wear ill-fitting shoes or suffer foot trauma. With bunions, the bone of the big toe drifts outward and pushes sideways into your other toes. That causes problems like hammertoes, corns, and calluses.
Ankle Sprains
Sprains are a frequent problem for many patients. They relate to joint damage and swelling, instability, and pain. In extreme cases, sprains can be tied to torn ligaments, bruised cartilage, or broken bones.
To avoid serious interventions like surgery, it’s important to take preventive measures. That’s why The Foot & Ankle Center of Maryland is proud to offer gait analysis. Using biomechanical assessment, we craft custom orthotics to exact specifications. Designed to complement how you move, our orthotics are only manufactured once a rigorous examination of your feet, ankles, and legs has been completed.
